BP Selects Emerson’s Optimization and Performance Monitoring Technology For 3% Energy Bill Reduction
Emerson's previous success instrumental in BP's decision for
Power Station Optimizer
Teesside, United Kingdom, February 17, 2003 - Emerson Process Management has been
awarded a contract by BP to improve performance of its integrated Power Station and CHP plant on the
Grangemouth site, United Kingdom. This cogeneration facility provides power to support the major BP businesses
on the site – Exploration, Oil and Chemicals. This contract forms part of BP’s automation strategy to
increase plant availability and improve the economic performance at the Grangemouth site. The solution will be
implemented using Emerson’s real-time on-line optimization system,
AMS Suite: Real-Time Optimizer. In addition
AMS Suite: Equipment Performance Monitor, web-based equipment performance monitoring service, will be used to
analyze the underlying performance of Boilers and Steam Turbines to support BP’s operational decision-making.
"BP is pleased to place this contract with Emerson, whose track record and abilities are evident
from previous projects on the Grangemouth site. Again we have selected Emerson because of their value
proposition that provides a solution that is the most complete and cost-effective to meet our needs”, said
Gordon Grant, BP Availability Manager. “We know this project will enable us to become more efficient and
responsive, and will play a key role in helping us reduce our annual energy bill by approximately 3%.”
This project builds on the success experienced on this site where
AMS Optimizer has been deployed to
provide an online, real-time closed-loop optimizer on the G4 and KG Olefins parts of the site.
"A very productive partnership has been formed between BP and Emerson to deliver improved operating
results,” said Craig Llewellyn, president of Emerson Process Management's
Asset Optimization
Division.
"Through past successful projects, BP knows they can rely on us to help them with this critical utilities
optimization system." Emerson’s Asset Optimization offering combines services and technologies to improve
availability and performance of production assets. It takes advantage of the
PlantWeb® digital plant
architecture to automate the flow of information on asset reliability and performance to the people who
run the business.
