BP Exploration forms Production Optimization alliance with
Emerson Process Management
Teesside, United Kingdom, September 11, 2001 -
Emerson Process Management
and BP Exploration today entered a Framework agreement to provide
real-time production optimization systems for BP’s upstream oil
and gas facilities. Financial terms of the agreement were not
disclosed. Emerson Process
Management is an Emerson (NYSE: EMR) business.
The
five-year agreement is intended to support a rapid deployment of
Emerson’s Real-Time Optimization (RTO) systems throughout BP.
Several BP facilities are currently using Emerson RTO applications
to deliver improved operating margins, increased oil production and
a reduction in plant operating costs. This technology has delivered
results for BP in the United Kingdom at its Wytch Farm, Grangemouth,
and Hull facilities and in the U.S. in Louisiana. BP is seeking to maximize gains across the corporation.
Stephen
Leng, Process Simulation Engineer, Upstream Technology Group for BP
commented, “With Emerson’s optimization technology, BP is
seeking to increase production by one to two percent on suitable applications
and deliver the business prize that this technology promises.”
Under
the terms of the agreement Emerson will provide BP facilities with
an integrated optimization system to increase profitability and
management of oil and gas well delivery, flow-lines, production
platforms, export pipelines and gas plants. To date, seven BP
facilities have initiated the program and are currently using or
installing this technology. Emerson Process Management combines
world-class services and innovative technologies to deliver improved
operations. Its Asset Optimization division is a leading supplier of real-time production
optimization and performance monitoring solutions.“This
is an excellent agreement for both parties. BP and Emerson have
identified a realistic roll-out programme that swiftly delivers the
production optimization systems their assets require,” said Ross
Smith, CEO of Emerson’s Performance Monitoring and Optimization business. “We have a
strong track record for the delivery of successful optimization
projects and equipment performance monitoring solutions using
AMS Suite: Equipment Performance Monitor within BP. These coupled with our extensive
experience in upstream oil and gas applications were key elements in
successfully attaining the alliance.”
“I
am delighted with this agreement because it followed from our success
in achieving improved operating results within a number of BP
facilities,” said John Berra, executive vice president of Emerson
with responsibility for the process management business. “We look forward to more successes with this technology,
and also to expanding the business improvement with our equipment
performance monitoring applications that are installed and
generating savings at numerous BP production platforms in the North
Sea.”
