Amerada Hess standardizes on Emerson’s Process Equipment Performance Monitoring Solution

Spurred by 10% compressor performance increase at one site, AMS Suite: Equipment Performance Monitor is identified as best-in-class technology for subsequent sites.

Teesside, United Kingdom, April 16, 2003 - Emerson Process Management’s mechanical and process equipment performance monitoring solution, AMS Suite: Equipment Performance Monitor, has been selected by Amerada Hess as the proven choice to provide accurate and timely information on the performance of process equipment.

AMS Performance Monitor has been used on Amerada Hess’ Triton Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) operating vessel for the last two years. Here, AMS Performance Monitor identified degraded performance on a compressor that, following maintenance activity, increased performance by over 10%. In addition, it also detected faulty instrumentation, responsible for lost production on a compressor train.

AMS Performance Monitor will be used by maintenance personnel on an additional Amerada Hess facility, called the Scott platform, to track the performance of centrifugal compressors, to enable maximum performance gains, and to foresee any need for preventive maintenance. Amerada Hess is driving for production increases on the Scott platform, the largest oil and gas field to come on stream within the UK sector of the North Sea within the last decade. The company expects production from this field, and the neighboring Telford field, to produce the equivalent of 7% of UK oil requirements.

“Having seen the capabilities of this tool on the FPSO, this contract demonstrates that AMS Performance Monitor is our preferred choice for performance monitoring on North Sea assets,” said Martyn Campbell, Amerada Hess Senior Maintenance Engineer for the Scott platform. “Our objective is to improve operational performance, by applying best-in-class technology, to maintain production and reduce the possibility of downtime. Therefore, it is beneficial to standardize on a proven tool, when it comes to selecting a system to provide accurate and timely information on the performance of our process equipment.”

“Our challenge is to exceed our customers expectations. The way AMS Performance Monitor is being adopted by world-class organizations as their preferred choice for performance monitoring, I’m confident that we are meeting that challenge,” said Craig Llewellyn president of the Asset Optimization Division of Emerson Process Management.

Emerson’s Asset Optimization offering combines services and technologies to improve availability and performance of production assets. It takes advantage of the PlantWeb® digital plant architecture to automate the flow of information on asset reliability and performance to the people who run the business.
